NHL Playoffs – 2010 Stanley Cup Finals Game 6

Flyers 3 – 4 Blackhawks (OT)
Congratulations to the Chicago Blackhawks for winning the Stanley Cup! This young team filled with character, leadership, and determination accomplished the ultimate dream. They were consistent throughout the regular season and of course, the playoffs. We had no doubt the Chicago Blackhawks would take a run at the Cup, but questioned there ability to stay gritty for the entire playoffs. Each round, the Hawks got better and gained more confidence. They never allowed the Flyers to intimidate them or set the tempo in this round. They took charge and made the most of there opportunity. Now they get to enjoy the honor of hoisting the Stanley Cup and celebrating like Rock Stars! Congratulations again to the Chicago Blackhawks! Enjoy boys!

NHL Playoffs – 2010 Stanley Cup Finals Game 5

Flyers 4 – 7 Blackhawks
The Chicago Blackhawks dominated game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals. With a first period lead of 3-0, the momentum carried them throughout the entire game. Every player on Chicago was on the same page. They beat the Flyers up in all areas of the ice. They won their one on one battles, beat Philly to loose pucks, controlled the puck well, and applied pressure to their defense. Pronger was minus -5 and Leighton was pulled after his poor performance in the 1st period. Boucher replaced in the 2nd period and wasn’t very sharp either. The Flyers played catch up all night and couldn’t contain the Hawks 60 minute effort. Both teams have had success at home in this series, so Philly may be able to squeeze out a win at home. Either way, the Chicago Blackhawks are the better team and deserve to win the Stanley Cup!

NHL Playoffs – 2010 Stanley Cup Finals Game 4

Flyers 5 – 3 Blackhawks – The Philadelphia Flyers greatest asset is how they “believe” in each other. There “never quit” mentality has been the primary part of there success during there road to the Stanley Cup. Although the last two games could have went either way, the Chicago Blackhawks are playing good hockey. They are in each game, creating offensive chances and applying pressure in all areas of the ice. In this game, the Flyers maintained there composure until the final 10 minutes of the game. Up 4-1, Chicago scored 2 late goals to close the gap to 4-3 with 3 minutes remaining in regulation. Carter scored the empty net goal, making it 5-3, wrapping up the Flyers victory. Both teams head back to Chicago for a 2 game series. So far both teams have had success at home, so it will be interesting to see what happens in these next 2 games. We predict a split in Chicago!

NHL Playoffs – 2010 Stanley Cup Finals Game 3

Flyers 4 – 3 Blackhawks (OT)
The Philadelphia Flyers find themselves back into this series with Giroux’s GWG in OT. The Flyers remained determined and resilient with their comeback in the 3rd period to force overtime. The Chicago Blackhawks have been more than impressive with their overall team play. They are the better team at this point and appear to have more structure to their team system. This game could have went either way. There was a lot of emotion at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. The Flyers are happy to have won this game, but the Blackhawks will be awaiting Friday’s game for their revenge.

NHL Playoffs – 2010 Stanley Cup Finals Game 2

Flyers 1 – 2 Blackhawks
The Chicago Blackhawks do it again! The most impressive part of their game is their physical and gritty play. They are clearly the better skating team and appear be better conditioned, but they are standing up to the Flyers chippy play. Niemi is in a zone and has been incredible. The Hawks received goals from Hossa and Eager in the 2nd period. The Philadelphia Flyers put pressure on the Hawks all game long and were denied by the Hawks. Gagne was the Flyers only goal scorer in the 3rd period. The young Hawks walk away with a 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup Final round. They have a lot to be confident about going into Philadelphia based on their road record this playoffs. The Flyers will be ready and it will be fun to watch!

NHL Playoffs – 2010 Stanley Cup Finals Game 1

Flyers 5 – 6 Blackhawks
Tonight was a scoring display in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals. Both goaltenders were tested, and Leighton was replaced by Boucher after giving up his fifth goal on 20 shots. Boucher allowed the GWG by Kopecky, who has been a healthy scratch for 5 games. Overall, it was a fun and exciting game to watch with a lot of emotion and offense. The Hawks never got fatigued as the game went on. In fact, they got stronger. The Flyers were dying out and could not keep up with Chicago’s young legs. The entire 3rd period, the Hawks turned it up a notch and never slowed down their pace. Philly was hanging on and hoping to tie it to force OT, but that never happened. Although we didn’t see Niemi’s best game, he played very well in the 3rd period to protect the Hawk’s victory. Game 2 should be just as exciting!

NHL Playoffs Conference Finals – Game 5

Flyers 4 – 2 Canadiens
The Philadelphia Flyers advance to the Stanley Cup final round for the first time in 13 years. They have been the biggest surprise in these playoffs and our pick as the Dark Horse to win the Stanley Cup. Gionta jumped out of the gates in the first minute to put the Habs up 1-0. Moments later, Richards resounded with a shorthanded goal to tie the game at 1. The Flyers also received scoring from Asham and Carter, who netted 2 goals on the night. Gomez scored in the 3rd to close the gap by 1 goal, but Carter’s empty net goal sealed the deal for Philly. The Flyers played with complete urgency and determination. They did everything they needed to win and scarified every part of their bodies to make it happen. The Montreal Canadiens had a great run and have a lot to be proud of. The Philadelphia Flyers head to Chicago for start of the final round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, which begins on Saturday. Should be exciting!

NHL Playoffs Conference Finals – Game 4

Flyers 3 – 0 Canadiens
The Philadelphia Flyers keep making history! This time it was Leightons turn. He is the first goaltender in Flyers history to record 3 shutouts in a playoff series. The Flyers took charge in this game and were very tight defensively. They only allowed 17 shots on net, and most impressively, 1 shot in the 2nd period. Giroux scored twice for Philly and Leino added one as well. Montreal couldn’t generate anything offensively. They were a different team than they were in game 3 of this series. Down 3-1 and heading back to Philadelphia, don’t expect this series to go more than 6 games.

Sharks 2 – 4 Blackhawks
an Jose and Joe Thornton are a major disappointment. This team is supposed to be led by Joe Thornton and he cannot get it done. Sure he’s a great player and has proven that, but he’s not the Franchise player everyone expected. He won a Gold medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics, but he was not a major factor for Team Canada. He was in the right place at the right time. I (Peter), played with Joe in Boston and he was the nicest guy in the world along with being a great hockey player. When he decides to take his “mild mannered” personality to the next level and play like he’s 6′4″ 235 lbs, he’s unstoppable! Enough about Big Joe…..Congratulations to the Chicago Blackhawks for advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in 18 years and sweeping the San Jose Sharks in the semifinal round of the playoffs. Couture and Marleau made it 2-0 for a period and a half, until Seabrook scored to make it 2-1. Late in the 2nd period, Bolland scored to tie the game at 2. This was the momentum builder for Chicago and it led to Byfuglien’s GW and Versteeg’s empty net insurance goal. The Hawks await their next opponent, which will be the Philadelphia Flyers for the Stanley Cup Finals!

NHL Playoffs Conference Finals – Game 3

Flyers 1 – 5 Canadiens
The Montreal Canadiens played with a lot of courage tonight. They did not back down from the Philadelphia Flyers and they set the pace of the game. The Flyers have a tendency to play dirty and feisty when things do not go their way, attempting to send a message. This did not phase the Habs! Halak is back on track with his excellent performance and Cammelleri found his scoring touch by recording the first goal of the game. The Flyers were sloppy and had trouble executing their game plan. Gagne scored the lone goal for the Flyers, while Pronger was a minus 3 on the night. The Canadiens deserved this win tonight by dominating every part of the game.

Sharks 2 – 3 Blackhawks (OT)
The San Jose Sharks outshot the Hawks by a descent margin, but Niemi was extremely solid in net. Byfuglien may have been the OT Hero, but Niemi was the Unsung Hero in this game! Marleau kicked off the game with the first goal on the PP. Later Sharp responded with a PP goal of his own. The game was tied at 1 until Bollands goal in the 3rd to make it 2-1. Soon after, Marleau notched his 2nd goal late in the game to force OT. Byfuglien scored to GW in OT in the first period of OT to advance to a 3-0 lead in the series.
